The National Lottery Community Funded Safety First Project Reaches an End
The Safety First Team would like to thank the National Lottery Community Fund for their generous sponsorship which has allowed us to offer additional support to disabled people from
Preston, Chorley and South Ribble over the last three years.
From November 2021, we have been funded to support disabled people maintain their safety at home, in personal relationships and within their local communities. With the help of local
partners, disabled people, volunteers, friends and allies we have provided a range of 121 support sessions, group activities, events and support to report crimes and incidents to the
Police.
To all of our volunteers who so generously gave up their time, the marvelous support of partner Organisations and to each and every one of our stakeholders…

The project ends on Friday 29th November 2024, after that date calls or text messages to the Safety First mobile number 07841017472 or email address safetyfirst@disability-equality.org.uk may not get picked up, but you can still reach DENW by emailing hello@disabilityequality.org.uk. DENW will continue to act as a 3rd Party Hate Crime Reporting Centre and will continue to support victims of hate crimes and incidents in conjunction with other local support services. If you would like more details, please telephone Reception on 01772 558863 and ask to speak to an advisor.
All trained hate crime ambassadors will continue their work in the community.
Other Organisations such as – Lancashire Victims Services and Stop Hate UK operate the Stop Hate Line which provides support to people affected by Hate Crime motivated by disability,

Please note: The Safe and Well calls that started to provide help during the Covid pandemic will end on Wednesday 27th November 2024, as the pandemic has now ended and there are now many Organisations and self- help Groups providing emotional support. Organisations such as:

The Safety First Team have made a difference and disabled people in the Preston area have told us they now feel much safer, with improved confidence and a greater sense of well-being as a result of the project.
