Disability Equality has provided a range of support services to enable other disabled people to live independently and be active in their local community since 1996.

A brief timeline

1992

The foundations for Disability Equality NW began in 1992, when the Disability Awareness in Action project launched in Preston, Lancashire. This initial project was designed to support disabled people’s self-advocacy empowerment internationally and promote and protect disabled people’s human rights.

1996

In 1996, the PIP (Preston Information Project) was introduced, and this new project superseded and took on the vital activity carried out by the original Disability Awareness in Action Project.

1998

The PIP became ‘Preston DISC’ (Disability Information Services Centre) and was formally registered as a charity in 1998.

2009

Following an expansion of our geographical reach, Preston DISC evolved into Disability Equality (NW) Ltd. in 2009, which continues to support, promote and protect disabled people’s human rights.
