The project takes a person-centered approach to help disabled people maintain their own personal safety.
We will facilitate targeted community and personal safety campaigns, public events, peer support activities, publicity and resources for effective personal and community safety, referral systems with specialist victims and other disability services and volunteer opportunities.
The Safety First project will help disabled people to maintain their safety at home, in their personal relationships and in the community. The main project activities include:
- ‘Safe and Well’ checks by telephone or messaging services
- One-to-one personal safety planning for victims of abuse or crime, including hate crime
- Liaison with and referral to specialist agencies for additional support
- Raising the project profile at outreach sessions, partnership meetings, talks to community groups and attending community events
- Facilitating group activities, workshops, peer support sessions and volunteering opportunities
