Disability Equality (nw) Ltd (DENW) is pleased to announce that the National Lottery Community Fund has contributed to the development of its new community hub in Preston for the next four years, from September 16, 2024, to September 15, 2028.
DENW is committed to fostering a society where all individuals, regardless of impairment, are valued and can lead full family, social, and economic lives. To achieve this vision, DENW provides a range of support services, events, and activities that empower disabled people across the North West of England to live independently and engage actively in their communities.
The development of a new community hub in Preston has been a key aim in DENW’s Strategic Plans for over 8 years, following extensive consultation with local disabled people, carers and support organisations.
The Community Hub will be a space where disabled people can access a variety of fully accessible opportunities, activities and resources. With funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, the hub will continue to offer some activities previously offered at the charity’s Church Street location, as well as providing new activities, services and support, it will also be a safe space for local volunteer-led groups and organisations to meet, promoting a spirit of inclusion and cooperation.
“Our community hub has been vital in responding to local needs and allowing us to work closely with disabled people to provide user-led services and support,” said Melanie Close, Chief Executive of DENW. “We are incredibly grateful to National Lottery players and the National Lottery Community Fund for their continued support. This contribution will allow us to maintain and expand our support, helping disabled people live independently and participate fully in their communities.”
In addition to sustaining current operations, the National Lottery funding will support new initiatives, including the creation of a trading arm for DENW, which will contribute to the organisation’s long-term sustainability and impact.
DENW is in the process of finalising details about the upcoming programmes and initiatives that will be supported by this funding. Those interested in staying updated are encouraged to become members. Full membership is free and open to disabled people living in the North West of England, while associate membership is available for parents, carers, and support organisations.
