One of our fabulous volunteers, Margaret Singleton, DENW Trustee, represented us at a special reception held at County Hall, Preston, hosted by Lancashire County Council in partnership with the Lancashire Lieutenancy. The event brought together organisations from across the county who had been nominated for The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.
The reception celebrated the work of voluntary groups across Lancashire and recognised those who had reached the nomination stage for the award. The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest recognition given to volunteer-led groups in the UK and is considered the equivalent of an MBE for organisations, celebrating outstanding contributions to communities and voluntary service.
Hosted at County Hall, the event welcomed representatives from charities, community groups and voluntary organisations, providing an opportunity for nominees to meet fellow organisations, share their stories and celebrate the collective impact of the voluntary sector across Lancashire. Events like this are typically supported by the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, who acts as the King’s representative in the county and plays a key role in recognising and promoting community achievements and honours.
The reception highlighted the strength of Lancashire’s voluntary sector and the vital role played by organisations supporting communities across the county. Being nominated for the King’s Award is itself a significant achievement, reflecting the dedication, commitment and positive impact that volunteers and community groups bring to local people and neighbourhoods.
