In the past 36 hours, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has responded to three fire incidents caused by mirrors magnifying sunlight. The sun is currently positioned in the sky in a way that can shine directly into first-floor windows. Curved mirrors or glass ornaments can act as lenses, concentrating sunlight and potentially starting a fire if the rays are reflected onto flammable items. To prevent fires, the fire service is asking everyone to remove mirrors or other reflective items from windowsills, ledges, desks, or anywhere else that sunlight can reach.
