What an incredible day in Preston!
We were proud to celebrate the official opening of the DENW Community Hub on Tuesday 13th May 2025, at the new home, Bannister House in Preston, Lancashire, a space for and by disabled people, right in the heart of Lancashire.
This wasn’t your usual ribbon-cutting event. Instead of dignitaries or VIPs taking the spotlight, the ribbon was cut by members of the community, the very people this hub is here to serve. As Mel Close, CEO of Disability Equality North West, perfectly put it:
“This is a community centre for disabled people, it’s only right disabled people should cut the ribbon, and we’ll have a plaque saying the community hub was opened by disabled people.”
This new hub represents more than bricks and mortar. It’s a safe, welcoming space built on the values of inclusion, empowerment and lived experience, a place where disabled people lead the conversation and shape their own future.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible. The videos below speak for themselves, this is what real community looks like.
