Everyone should be able to enjoy a festive local light switch-on… especially in Lancashire…
The pie and peas are hot, the weather is traditionally freezing, wet and miserable, but it’s still a great way to celebrate the start of the festive period, enjoy some superstar acts and met some famous people.
So this year, we are super proud to have sponsored Preston City’s Light-Switch on, to have Co-Sign’s very own superstar Mark interpret the proceedings into BSL.
Here’s a collection of photos and videos from the evening – we’ve focused in our our favourite superstar of the event Mark.
This is Mark… he is white, late twenties, with a light brown hair, shaven at the sides with height on top, and fashionable facial hair in a beard style. He is wearing black shoes, dark grey jeans, white long sleeved top (especially for the cold Preston evening!) and a dark coloured sleeveless jumper. The next image shows a photo of Mark smiling and signing using BSL while the background looks to be live on stage with some metalwork behind him.
Hopefully, in years to come this will be the norm, but for now we hope this serves as a good practice example of making a special public event more accessible!
Thanks to @BidPreston for some of these photos, and the below videos.
Here’s a video of the count-down to the light switch on. The video includes Mark from Co-Sign signing the countdown in BSL, the video then pans to the right and the confetti cannon goes off over everyone in the audience.
So…. Here we go… altogether now…. MERRY CHRISTMAS! pic.twitter.com/dtWdFR7fLe

Next up we see a short clip of Becce J singing Last Christmas while Mark signs to the left of the stage. Becce is wearing black shoes, black combat pants, sliver top and denim jacket. At the start of the clip Becce ask people to “sign along if you know it” and half way through shouts “Louder Preston!” – you can also hear audience singing along in the background to the song.
That got us all right in the feels, didn’t it Flag Market! Huge thanks to @becce_j for that amazing performance!
Moving swiftly on, please give it up for the incredible Carol May Dance Academy! pic.twitter.com/DJQq9hLC5D— Preston City Centre BID (@BIDPreston) November 18, 2023
